Academic Program

Teach flight-controller skills without risking a real aircraft

The simulator runs real Betaflight and iNAV firmware, so students can study tuning, diagnostics and autonomous flight on ordinary PCs.

Who it's for

FPV schools Technical academies Robotics clubs University labs

Why use it

Real firmware

Runs actual Betaflight and iNAV builds, not a simplified imitation.

Safe to learn on

Crashes, bad tunes and mistakes cost nothing — nothing breaks.

Offline licences

Signed licence files, verified locally. No internet needed to run.

Windows & Linux

Runs on both, from the same build.

Ordinary PCs

A standard PC and a USB gamepad or radio per seat is enough.

Realistic physics model

Behaviour matches the air — the physics engine runs at 1000 Hz.

Example topics

The simulator covers the everyday engineering topics of multirotor flight control — for example:

Flight controller basics Flight modes PID tuning Failsafe GPS navigation GPS Rescue / RTL ESC configuration ESC protocols Motor direction Propeller selection Blackbox logs Firmware testing

Prepare once, use with the whole group

Every build, tune and setting is a plain file. A teacher can prepare a configuration — or a test scenario to diagnose — once, and hand the same starting point to the entire class.

FAQ

Do we need special computers?
No. SITL Forge runs on ordinary PCs under Windows or Linux. A USB gamepad or RC radio per seat is all the extra hardware needed.
Is Steam required?
No. Academic use runs on a signed licence file instead of Steam — there are no student accounts to manage.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The licence is verified locally and the simulator needs no internet connection to run.
Which firmware is supported?
Betaflight and iNAV run today. There is also a built-in SIM controller that needs no add-on. ArduPilot support is in development.
How is a classroom licensed?
One licence file can cover the seats in a class or a lab. Contact us with your seat count and we will suggest the right option.
